Steve Harvey’s life story is one of overcoming adversity. Growing up, he didn’t have much because his father was a coal miner and his mother was a Sunday school teacher.
After a few years in Virginia, where he attended high school, Harvey and his family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio.
Many people don’t know that Steve’s real name is actually Broderick Stephen Harvey, which was inspired by actor Broderick Crawford, but he never used it and instead went by the name Steve.
He made his debut at Cleveland’s Hilarities Comedy Club in 1985. This gave him some exposure, but more was needed to live comfortably.
For a few years, he had been homeless, living in his old automobile. Things were looking good, though, as he was quickly becoming one of the country’s most popular TV show hosts. He eventually left his old car and moved into a new home.
Harvey’s talent shined through due to his patience and hard work. From 1996 until 2002, he hosted “The Steve Harvey Show” on the WB network. Soon after, he earned his show, which was hugely popular, especially among African-Americans.
He kept working hard and improving his skills, which led to even more success. He has hosted several more shows in recent years, including “Family Feud” and “Celebrity Family Feud.”

Harvey has been married three times and has three children from his first marriage to Marcia. Harvey has a son with his second wife, Mary Shackelford. Sadly, the couple divorced in 2005. Marjorie Bridges-Woods is his third wife, and the pair has two children.
Harvey lost contact with his children after his divorce from his second wife in 1994. Years later, the family reconciled and realized why he had left. He seemed to value his professional life over spending time with them.
After their divorce, Shackelford accused Harvey of infidelity, which was ultimately revealed to be false.
During one of his stand-up shows, Steve Harvey encountered his wife, Marjorie Bridges, when she was trying to get to her seat. Years later, they reconnected and married.
The couple currently runs the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, which helps low-income families with mentoring, education, and financial assistance. Harvey believes he owes it to people trying to make ends meet to be there for them since he understands what it’s like to be less fortunate.
The Harveys’ lives are reminiscent of romantic comedies. When fate reunited them 15 years later, the comic maintained his word.
Harvey and Marjorie are still madly in love after years of being together. Marjorie raved to Essence about how blessed she was to have found her love in Harvey. He never misses a chance to tell her how much he adores her and how much she means to him. On Mother’s Day 2015, the entire world witnessed a poignant disclosure he made on his show.
