6-Year-Old Girl and Her Dog Found Wandering Alone in Florida, Mother and Boyfriend Arrested

Recently, in a quiet neighborhood of Volusia County, Florida, residents experienced quite a surprise. On April 4th, the Volusia County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded swiftly to a report indicating a young girl had been found unaccompanied on a local homeownerโ€™s lawn. It was here that the deputies discovered the child, sitting calmly in a chair within the carport area of a kind strangerโ€™s home.

The little girl was clearly in distress, feeling hot, hungry, and thirsty. With concern, the homeowner, alongside a helpful neighbor, stepped into action. They provided the young girl with much-needed food, water, some delightful toys, and fresh clothing to ensure her comfort. Additionally, Deltona Fire Rescue professionals were brought in to carefully evaluate her health and well-being.

Caught on the deputiesโ€™ body cameras, the girl bravely shared her story. She explained how her mother had left her without implying any intention to return soon. She recalled her parents walking her to a park but could not confirm if or when they would come back for her. Despite her confusing predicament, her youthful spirit shone through as she excitedly anticipated her ride in a police car.

As authorities delved deeper into her situation, it became evident that this young girl had not been attending school and had been living a transient lifestyle, experiencing homelessness. To provide her with a stable and safe environment, she was lovingly placed under the care of her grandparents.

The case took a crucial turn the following morning when the deputies successfully located the girlโ€™s mother and her boyfriend. Their actions led to serious legal consequences, as they faced charges of child desertion and animal abandonment, underscoring the gravity of their neglectful behavior.
