John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Share Heartfelt News About Their Son’s Health

In a heartfelt revelation, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend recently opened up about a new chapter in their lives as they adjust to the diagnosis of their six-year-old son, Miles, with type 1 diabetes. This news marks a significant change for the family as they navigate what Teigen describes as “a different, new world for us.”

Teigen chose to share this deeply personal update with her followers through a post on Instagram. It came after some keen-eyed fans noticed Miles sporting a glucose monitor on his arm in a photo where he was joyfully holding up signs at the Paris Olympics.

“A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago — Luna, Miles, and I celebrating Simone Biles and team USA. Miles had his arm up, and soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform,” Teigen, now 38, penned in the post.

“You noticed his type-1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was, and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community, already,” she continued.

The post sparked a wave of support and compassion from friends, fans, and followers, all moved by Teigen’s transparency and the courage of her family.

“A couple of weeks ago, our Miles was sick, in the hospital, with a terrible case of shigella, an intestinal infection caused by bacteria in food or water. A lot of his friends were also sick with it, as they went to the same camp and well, it happens!” Teigen explained.

Discovery Amidst Another Illness

It was during this hospital visit for shigella that doctors noticed something amiss in Miles’ blood results. This led to further tests which unveiled his diabetes diagnosis.

“But the doctors knew something else was off about his blood tests. I’ve learned since then that this is how so many young children end up being diagnosed with type-1 diabetes, going to the hospital for something different,” Teigen elaborated. “After more testing, we learned he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime of T1. Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly.”

Gratitude for Community Support

In closing her moving message, Teigen expressed heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support the family received.

“This post is to thank you so much for your kindness,” she conveyed. “It helps Miles so much to know so many other people are going through the same thing and he is not alone.”

With Miles welcomed into the world in 2018, the family’s journey highlights the unexpected roads many families navigate and the power of community support along the way.
