As someone who’s always admired Sally Field, I can say that she has been an iconic presence in the world of entertainment. Her career has spanned many decades, capturing audiences with her versatility and undeniable talent. With numerous on-screen romances under her belt, Sally has experienced her fair share of memorable kisses on the big screen.
Recently, Sally shared a surprising revelation about her least favorite on-screen kiss, although she was a bit reluctant to reveal the identity of her co-star initially.
Sally Field, regarded as one of the most talented actresses of her time, boasts an outstanding career in Hollywood. Her performances in various films and television shows have left an indelible mark on the industry. One performance that stands out in my memory is her portrayal in “Steel Magnolias,” especially the heartbreaking funeral scene where she embodied a woman torn by love, despair, anger, and sorrow.
Aside from that, Sally is also known for her roles in popular movies and series like “Gidget,” “The Flying Nun,” “Smokey and the Bandit,” “Forrest Gump,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” and “Erin Brockovich.”
Sally Field was born into a working-class showbiz family in Pasadena, California.
However, her early life was far from idyllic. In her memoirs, Sally candidly wrote about some difficult experiences, including her stepfather’s misconduct and a secret abortion she had at the age of 17.
Despite these challenges, she grew up to be a remarkably gracious and down-to-earth individual.
Today, Sally continues to actively engage in her profession. In the 2020 TV series “Dispatches From Elsewhere,” she played the role of Janice. And in 2022, she portrayed Jessie Buss in “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” a popular show focusing on the personal and professional lives of the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1980s.
Given her ongoing involvement in the industry, it’s no surprise that Sally often makes headlines through interviews.
During a December 1st episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” the cherished star Sally Field decided to reveal her most disappointing on-screen kiss after a listener posed the question.
With a playful glance around, Field quipped, “Oh boy. Shall I really name names here?”
Cohen, clearly interested, responded, “I think you should.”
Gathering her courage, Field confessed, “Okay. This is going to be a shocker. Hold on folks.”
Much to the audience’s surprise, the Oscar-winning actress mentioned her former beau, Burt Reynolds, as the less-than-ideal kisser.
Cohen, appearing astonished, inquired, “But weren’t you dating at the time?”
Sally recounted that during the filming of “Smokey and the Bandit,” she often had to “look the other way” during their intimate scenes. Apparently, their kisses “just was not something he really did for you.”
Cohen, visibly taken aback, responded, “Isn’t that something.”
Field elaborated, sharing that Reynolds had a tendency to be quite “drooly” during their on-screen moments.
The chemistry between the two co-stars ignited in 1977 while working on “Smokey and the Bandit.” Their romance continued for about five years thereafter.
Sadly, Reynolds passed away at 82 due to cardiac arrest, but he reportedly expressed regrets about his relationship with Field in his memoir “But Enough About Me.” According to the New York Post, he wished he had made more efforts to salvage their relationship.
In a March interview with Variety, Sally revealed they had ceased communication during the last three decades of Reynolds’ life for good reason.
“He was not someone I could be around,” she mentioned. “He was just not good for me in any way. And he had somehow invented in his rethinking of everything that I was more important to him than he had thought, but I wasn’t. He just wanted to have the thing he didn’t have. I just didn’t want to deal with that.”
Throughout it all, my admiration for Sally Field’s work remains unchanged. Her performances are consistently top-notch and truly commendable!
