Body Language Expert Weighs in on Melania’s Gesture at Trump’s Inauguration

Before his speech to the nation, Donald Trump, newly sworn in as the 47th president, attended a church service with his wife, Melania Trump, kicking off the inauguration and marking the end of Joe Biden’s presidency.

In his address, Trump declared, “The golden age of America begins right now,” portraying himself as a “peacemaker and a unifier.”

Amidst supporters in Washington DC, Donald Trump signed several executive orders.

In a playful gesture, he tossed pens into the enthusiastic crowd.

Right before entering the chamber, just as he was about to take his oath, Trump attempted to give Melania a kiss. Wearing a custom hat by Eric Javits, Melania seemed to avoid the traditional kiss, leading to an awkward moment where the president ended up air kissing his wife.

Body language expert Judi James shared her analysis of the moment with Paddy Power, offering insights into Melania’s avoidance of the kiss.

James described Trump’s entrance as displaying a “slow alpha presence,” with a “mouth shrug smile” signifying his serious and committed approach to the role.

Approaching his wife, Trump’s gesture was described as “tender,” taking her hand in a manner reminiscent of a wedding ceremony.

James elaborated, “He leaned in with the intention of a lip-to-lip kiss.”

“However, Melania leaned forward, offering her cheek instead, directing the exchange to a cheek kiss,” she observed.

The duo executed a small “mwa” sound with their lips.

Despite the seeming awkwardness, James believes that Melania was pleased with the interaction.

“Melania’s expression was one of happiness, signaling not only acknowledgment and gratitude but also a display of partnership as they take on their roles together in the White House,” James interpreted.

The expert noted that the couple appeared somewhat out of sync during Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
