Animals are known for doing remarkable things, yet this particular discovery might just take the cake for being the eeriest. Folks everywhere are bewildered after hearing about a beluga whale attempting to mimic human speech.

When Beluga Whales Speak Like Humans

Generally, we assume that we can’t talk to animals like we do with each other. However, some critters surprise us by mimicking human sounds, leaving us absolutely amazed. Parrots often come to mind first, effortlessly mastering phrases and entire sentences with an impressive level of clarity.

Now, picture the surprise of catching a beluga whale making noises underwater that eerily resemble human speech. Dolphins have been taught to emulate human sounds, but none have done so spontaneously—until NOC, a nine-year-old beluga. This curious whale began emitting odd sounds at unusually low octaves, in rapid, rhythmic bursts.

The incident kicked off when a diver, emerging from the depths at the National Marine Mammal Foundation in California, wondered aloud, “Who just told me to get out?”
