Beandri Booysen’s life was a shining example of resilience, love, and the strength in positivity. Even when faced with a rare and devastating illness, she spread joy and touched countless lives. Sadly, her journey ended just days before Christmas.

At just 19, Beandri passed on, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire everyone who hears about her remarkable journey.
Born in South Africa, Beandri’s life took an unexpected turn when, at just seven months old, she was diagnosed with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome. This is an exceptionally rare genetic disorder that causes the body to age rapidly, at a rate eight times faster than usual.

The likelihood of being born with progeria stands at a mere 1 in 4 million. Globally, fewer than 400 children and young adults live with this condition today. While doctors believed Beandri wouldn’t live past her early teens, she had different ideas.
A Life Unrestricted by Illness
From her earliest words, Beandri defied the limitations of her condition. Despite weighing only 12 kilograms (26 pounds) and enduring the physical challenges of progeria, her spirit was untamed.
Beandri went to school and had aspirations of becoming a teacher. She even dreamed of getting married one day and raising twins. Her determination to enjoy the life of an ordinary teenager kept her going, savoring each precious moment.

Social media platforms became Beandri’s stage. Her TikTok account, brimming with motivational content and candid insights into her life, captivated nearly 300,000 followers.
The message she championed, “Be yourself. Love yourself. Believe in yourself,” struck a chord with audiences globally. By sharing her story, she not only educated people about progeria but also cultivated empathy and awareness.
A Mother’s Unimaginable Loss
Not long after her 19th birthday, Beandri faced a sudden health crisis.
“Please pray. Beandri’s heart stopped,” her mother, Bea, announced on a Wednesday. “They are attempting to revive her heart. Please pray.”
On December 18, Bea shared the heartbreaking news of Beandri’s passing.
Her heartfelt message, filled with a sorrowful yet proud tone, portrayed Beandri as a “vibrant personality” and recognized her as the “last surviving person in South Africa with progeria.”
“She was a beacon for Progeria awareness and those with special needs,” Bea expressed. “She never ceased fighting.”
Tributes soon overwhelmed TikTok as Beandri’s community learned of her passing. “Rest In Peace, my beloved friend. I will miss you greatly,” one individual shared.
Many others conveyed their grief, extending their deepest sympathies to Beandri’s family and close companions.
Her Everlasting Legacy
Beandri’s time on this earth may have been brief, yet she used it to illuminate what truly matters in life. Her impact was in teaching us to live fully, love deeply, and savor the beauty in each day.
