In an interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine, Biles recalled their initial encounter, saying, “He would say I slid into his DMs.” I discovered him and thought, ‘Oh, he’s quite cute,’ so I said hello… and then I noticed that he was in Houston, so we started speaking a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.”
Interestingly, Biles’ younger sister, Adria, was instrumental in putting the couple together. Adria became aware of their frequent video talks and set up a rendezvous by inviting Jonathan to a family lake house. Jonathan was greeted with wide arms by the Biles family, and he quickly became a beloved member of their family gatherings.
Jonathan remembers their friendship fondly: “We hung out immediately before the pandemic. It was one of the few occasions when everything was turned off and she was unable to do anything. So we used it to get to know one another – to get to know one another. It formed and strengthened our friendship.”
