On Monday, Al Roker was taken by surprise when he opened the door of his home to find three special Christmas carolers outside, singing revised versions of Jingle Bells and I’ll Be Home for Christmas, which now contained the line “Al Be Home for Christmas.”

The 68-year-old journalist and weatherman had only recently appeared virtually on the Today show to update his rehabilitation from four weeks in the hospital due to blood clots in his legs and lungs.

On Thursday’s Today show, a video of this heartbreaking moment aired. It featured Dylan Dreyer (who replaced Roker as a meteorologist), Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin, Jenna Bush Hager, and Sheinelle Jones, all wearing Santa hats singing carols. Today producers, crew members, and security people were also at the gathering.

Guthrie said it was a great moment for everyone involved, and many people were moved to tears when they saw Roker again. She went on to say that it was a very wonderful experience.

Al had a strong emotional attachment to his home, and it was sad to see everyone outside singing to him. Jones said there was an outpouring of love and adoration throughout the neighborhood.

Dryer noticed Roker standing in the doorway with a cane and how moved he was. He conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for everyone’s presence after the unique song. Seeing all these familiar faces made him realize how many people cared about him, and he thanked everyone from the bottom of his heart for their help. He said that it had been a challenging voyage and that he had missed them terribly.

Roker genuinely appreciated his community coming together in such a meaningful way to show their support for him during this difficult time. It meant everything to him, and he couldn’t thank every person who came out that day enough.

The melodies they sang symbolized their dedication and gave Al the strength to continue his mission despite whatever hurdles or obstacles he may have encountered. Everyone’s efforts to ensure Roker felt comforted and appreciated at all times highlighted the incredible compassion shown to him.

Al Roker thanked his supportive wife of 62 years, Deborah Roberts, on Monday’s Today Show for being his “rock” throughout his arduous journey.

The popular weatherman had been out of the studio for several weeks while undergoing treatment for blood clots in both his leg and lungs. After being admitted to the hospital on November 4th, Roker was able to return home after a successful course of treatment but suffered a relapse after Thanksgiving, preventing him from attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (for the 27th year in a row) and the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting.

Kotb joked during Monday’s broadcast that America might already have its newest America’s Got Talent competitor — Roker himself! Roker recently stated that he has been released from the hospital and is fighting his recovery with bravery and resilience. He went on to say that it had been a complicated ordeal that would not have been possible without the unconditional love and support of family and friends.

Al Roker has had numerous surgeries, but this one was particularly challenging. Despite this, he stays upbeat and hopeful, claiming that he feels a bit better each day and more grateful for all the prayers and support he has received.

His wife, Deborah Roberts, as well as their adult daughters Courtney (35) and Leila (35), live with him (24). He said that his college-aged son Nick would return home from the university shortly and that his brother and sister-in-law had also visited him.

While Al did not say when he would return to the Today show full-time, he did say it would take some time for him to recuperate appropriately. Al expressed his gratitude for everyone’s outpouring of love and good wishes, saying that it made him feel tremendously lucky to have such beautiful people in his life.

Al Roker, the beloved weather anchor for NBC’s Today Show, was hospitalized for four weeks due to blood clots, and his strength has suffered significantly. During this time, he had to postpone any plans to replace his knee, which added to his difficulties.

Despite not being able to make it into the studio every day, Al is still an active contributor to the show, as seen by the Christmas card in which many people rallied around Al with posters wishing him a swift recovery at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Al lost a significant amount of muscle mass while in the hospital, despite getting daily physical and occupational therapy sessions to regain his strength and mobility.

He is currently experiencing some degree of weakness due to this loss of muscular mass, which may interfere with his daily activities. Nonetheless, Al is doing everything he can to overcome this challenge, working hard with his therapists throughout each session.

Al’s perseverance and determination throughout his journey have been incredibly remarkable.
