‘Big Brother’ Star Dies at 46

Amber Siyavus, who became known to reality TV fans while competing on Season 8 of Big Brother, has died. She was 46 years old.

The Clark County medical examiner in Nevada confirmed Siyavus’ death to Deadline. According to death records, she died on October 9 at a residence in Las Vegas.

Her cause and manner of death have not yet been determined and remain pending.

Her Time on ‘Big Brother’

Siyavus appeared on Season 8 of the CBS reality competition series Big Brother in 2007.

Big Brother places a group of contestants, known as houseguests, inside a house where they live together while being filmed around the clock. They are cut off from the outside world and compete in challenges for power and safety.

Throughout the season, contestants vote to evict one another from the house. The goal is to avoid eviction and make it to the end of the game, where one contestant ultimately wins the grand prize.

Siyavus became one of the memorable personalities of Season 8. Because she frequently became emotional and cried inside the house, some viewers gave her the nickname “Whamber.”

She also formed close relationships with fellow contestants Jameka Cameron and Dustin Erikstrup.

Siyavus eventually finished in seventh place and became a member of the jury, the group of eliminated contestants responsible for helping decide the season’s winner.

She also had an unusual distinction during her time on the show. Siyavus was the only houseguest that season to reach the jury phase without winning either Head of Household or Power of Veto, two of the show’s most important competitions.

Dick Donato ultimately won Season 8, while his daughter, Daniele Donato, finished in second place.

Her Life After Reality TV

Siyavus was living in Las Vegas and largely stepped away from the reality television spotlight following her appearance on Big Brother.

According to information listed on her Facebook account, she began working as a cocktail waitress at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 2008, about a year after her season of Big Brother aired.

During her time on the CBS series, Siyavus often talked about being a single mother and spoke lovingly about her daughter, Lexi Tomcavage.

Tragedy Struck Her Family in 2018

Siyavus experienced a devastating loss years after leaving Big Brother.

Her daughter, Lexi, died in 2018 at just 18 years old. Her death was reported as an apparent suicide.

The loss brought Siyavus back into the public eye because longtime Big Brother viewers remembered how frequently she had talked about her daughter while living inside the house.

Siyavus had been open about the importance of motherhood in her life and the challenges of raising her daughter as a single mom.

It is not currently known whether Siyavus is survived by any other children or a partner.

Cause of Death Remains Pending

As of now, officials have not announced what caused Siyavus’ death.

The Clark County medical examiner lists both her cause and manner of death as pending. More information could become available after the medical examiner completes its investigation.
