Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. on the hit television series, has died. He was 34.
Mitte died Monday in Texas, according to TMZ. A county official confirmed his death to the outlet.
TMZ reported that Mitte died by suicide, citing sources familiar with the situation. Law enforcement said the investigation into his death remains ongoing.

Best Known for Breaking Bad
Mitte became famous for playing Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on AMC’s Breaking Bad, appearing in 56 episodes between 2008 and 2013.
The award-winning crime drama followed Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, a high school chemistry teacher who begins making and selling methamphetamine after being diagnosed with cancer. What begins as an attempt to provide money for his family eventually turns Walter into a powerful and dangerous figure in the drug world.
Mitte played Walter’s teenage son, who is caught in the middle as his family slowly falls apart.

Like his character, Mitte had cerebral palsy in real life. However, Mitte’s condition was milder than Walter Jr.’s, and he did not normally need the crutches his character used on the show.
The role made Mitte one of television’s most recognizable actors with a disability and helped him become an advocate for better disability representation in Hollywood.
Continued Acting After the Show
Mitte continued working in movies and television after Breaking Bad ended.
His credits included The Recall, The Oak Room and Netflix’s The Guardians of Justice. He also appeared on television shows including Switched at Birth and continued taking roles that included both characters with and without disabilities.
Mitte also worked extensively as an advocate for people with disabilities and served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy.

According to the Mayo Clinic, cerebral palsy is a group of conditions that affect movement, balance and posture. It is caused by damage to the developing brain, most often before birth. Symptoms vary widely and may include stiff or weak muscles, abnormal reflexes, difficulty walking, swallowing problems and trouble controlling eye movements. Some people can walk independently, while others need assistance. There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but treatments can help improve movement and daily function.
In one of his final interviews, published just days before his death, Mitte reflected on Breaking Bad and where he believed Walter Jr. would be years after the show’s dramatic ending.
Recent Photos With Breaking Bad Costar
Earlier this month, Mitte spent time with his former Breaking Bad costar Luis Moncada, according to TMZ.
Moncada played Marco Salamanca, one of the intimidating Salamanca cousins on the series. Social media photos from their recent meeting showed the two actors smiling together.
There was no public indication from those photos of what would happen days later.

Engaged to Kennedy Suarez
Mitte was also engaged to his longtime partner, Kennedy Suarez.
The couple had known each other for more than a decade and were friends before their relationship became romantic. They had been dating for about five years when Mitte proposed in October 2025.
He popped the question on Suarez’s 30th birthday during the Dia del Sol fundraising gala benefiting United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego.
Suarez works in human resources and had also become involved in Mitte’s advocacy and charitable efforts. The couple lived together in Brownsville, Texas, according to PEOPLE.
At the time of their engagement, Mitte spoke warmly about their relationship and his excitement about building a future with Suarez.

A Voice for Disabled Actors
Away from his acting career, Mitte repeatedly pushed Hollywood to give actors with disabilities more opportunities.
His advocacy was especially personal because of his own experience growing up with cerebral palsy.
Mitte used the attention he received from Breaking Bad to speak about disability, bullying and representation. His performance as Walter Jr. also helped bring a character with cerebral palsy into one of the most acclaimed television dramas of its era.
Mitte was only 34 at the time of his death. Authorities have said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional official details surrounding his death have not yet been released.
