My heart was pounding as I pressed the phone to my ear. The MOH picked up almost immediately.

โ€œHey!โ€ I said, trying to keep my voice steady. โ€œSo, I just picked up my dress, and something weird happened. The shop owner said it was only $200. But you told us the dresses were $400 each? Whatโ€™s going on?โ€

There was a brief silence. Then, she let out a nervous laugh. โ€œOh, uhโ€ฆ yeah. I meant to tell you. I found a discount, but only after you guys agreed to the original price. Since you all had already agreed, I justโ€ฆ well, I figured it wouldnโ€™t matter.โ€

I blinked. โ€œSo, you charged us double on purpose?โ€

Another awkward pause. โ€œWell, I meanโ€ฆ I put it on my card, right? I was just hoping to make a little extra to cover my expenses. Weddings are expensive, you know. And being MOH is so much work.โ€

My jaw nearly hit the floor. โ€œSo, you scammed us.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not scamming!โ€ she hissed. โ€œItโ€™s justโ€ฆ a little reimbursement for my time and effort. Besides, you wouldnโ€™t have known if you hadnโ€™t gone alone. The other girls paid me already.โ€

I felt my blood boil. โ€œYou literally stole money from your friends for a wedding that isnโ€™t even yours. You didnโ€™t even ask if we were okay with it! You just took it!โ€

She sighed dramatically. โ€œLook, if youโ€™re so mad about it, Iโ€™ll send you the extra $200 back. But you better not make a big deal about this. The bride doesnโ€™t need extra drama before her wedding.โ€

I was fuming, but I knew this wasnโ€™t just about me. โ€œYeah, youโ€™re going to send me my money back. But youโ€™re also going to refund everyone else, or I will.โ€

She scoffed. โ€œYouโ€™re seriously being so dramatic right now. Itโ€™s just money. Weโ€™re all spending so much on this wedding anyway.โ€

โ€œYeah, we are,โ€ I snapped, โ€œwhich is why scamming us out of even more is disgusting.โ€

She mumbled something under her breath but finally said, โ€œFine. Iโ€™ll do it.โ€ Then she hung up.

But I wasnโ€™t about to just hope she did the right thing.

I immediately texted the group chat with the other bridesmaids and laid it all out. Within minutes, the chat exploded.

Bridesmaid #1: โ€œWHAT THE ACTUAL HELL?! I already paid her!!โ€

Bridesmaid #2: โ€œSame! I had to dip into my savings for this dress! She really took extra from us and didnโ€™t say anything?!โ€

Bridesmaid #3: โ€œI feel sick. I trusted her.โ€

The bride, who had been quiet so far, finally chimed in.

Bride: โ€œWaitโ€ฆ WHAT? She told me she was helping you guys by covering it upfront. I didnโ€™t know she was overcharging you. This is not okay.โ€œ

A few minutes later, the MOH sent a message: โ€œFine, fine! Iโ€™ll refund everyone. I was just trying to make things easier for myself, okay? Didnโ€™t think it would be a big deal. Iโ€™ll send the money back today. Can we just move on now?โ€

The apologies felt empty. But sure enough, by the end of the day, everyone got their refunds. The damage, though, was already done. The trust was shattered.

The bride called me that night, heartbroken. โ€œI donโ€™t even know what to do. Sheโ€™s been my friend forever, but how can I have someone like that as my MOH?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s up to you,โ€ I said gently. โ€œBut if it were me? I wouldnโ€™t want someone in my wedding who sees friendship as a way to make a quick buck.โ€

She sighed. โ€œYeahโ€ฆ I think I need to talk to her.โ€

A couple of days later, the bride made her decision. The MOH was out. Another close friend took her place, someone who actually cared about the bride and the bridesmaids, not just the money.

The wedding itself? It was beautiful. The bride was glowing, the bridesmaids were all happy, and there was zero drama. We danced, laughed, and made amazing memories. And the former MOH? She didnโ€™t even show up.

Looking back, I realized something important: True friendships arenโ€™t built on convenience, money, or status. Theyโ€™re built on trust, respect, and honesty. And if someone shows you who they really areโ€”believe them.

If youโ€™ve ever had a friendship that didnโ€™t turn out the way you expected, share this story. Maybe itโ€™ll help someone else see the truth before itโ€™s too late. โค๏ธ
