In a recent interview with “Good Morning America,” “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak revealed the harrowing details of his recent medical emergency, which left him fearing for his life. Just one month after undergoing emergency surgery for a blocked bowel, Sajak shared that he felt he was on the verge of dying moments before the operation.
The ordeal began in November while Sajak was out for a morning stroll with his daughter. He suddenly experienced excruciating pain, which only intensified as the day progressed. Hours later, he found himself doubled over in agony, on the verge of entering surgery. Describing his condition at the time, Sajak said, “I was lying on the bed in the fetal position, trying to treat my pain with various medications. Nothing seemed to help. The discomfort was overwhelming.”
Fortunately, Sajak’s physicians eventually found a medication that provided relief from the debilitating pain. He vividly recalls the moment when the pain subsided, and he felt a wave of tranquility wash over him. “All of a sudden, the discomfort disappeared. I was surrounded by these beautiful pastels and a sense of peace. In the distance, I could hear my wife and daughter talking. It was like they were miles away, yet right there with me,” Sajak shared.
In that moment, Sajak couldn’t help but think that he had reached the brink of death. Fearing for his loved ones, he was saddened at the thought of them having to endure the aftermath of his passing. Little did he know that his concerns were unfounded.
“It turns out, I was simply high,” Sajak chuckled. Despite the initial scare, his surgery was incredibly successful, and he has made a speedy recovery. The medical team found no underlying cause for the intestinal blockage, indicating that he does not need to make any significant lifestyle changes.
“I’ve been feeling absolutely fantastic for several weeks now,” Sajak happily reported. “I’ve been back in the studio, hosting shows, and even after spinning the wheel, I’m as good as new. So, I believe everything is just fine.”
During Sajak’s recovery, his longtime co-host Vanna White stepped in to fill his shoes. In their conversation, Sajak jokingly expressed his concern that White might take over as the primary host. “I found out that she enjoys hosting, and it makes me a little nervous,” he admitted with a smile.
Despite the unexpected health scare, Sajak remains committed to his role on “Wheel of Fortune” and continues to bring joy to fans across the country. “I’m still on my guard,” he remarked, indicating that he’s ready for whatever challenges may come his way.
