My wife Emma has always had a distinct flair when it comes to fashion. Her unique way of putting together outfits always draws admiration from friends and strangers alike. Her confidence in her appearance is truly remarkable.
However, there was a day when her self-esteem took a hit, thanks to a rather rude encounter at a lingerie store.
Emma noticed that her favorite store, known for its exquisite products and elegant window displays, was looking to hire new staff.
She had been seeking employment and thought it was the perfect chance. Brimming with optimism, she walked into the store and warmly greeted the sales assistant, who unfortunately wasn’t very friendly.
Emma politely inquired about the job application process. The sales assistant glanced over her dismissively before saying something shocking: “Look, I don’t think you’re pretty enough for this job. No chance. Don’t even try.”
The sales assistant’s words were a blow to Emma’s confidence.
Emma returned home, tears in her eyes.
Seeing her so hurt was painful for me too. I was appalled by how someone could be so cruel and bluntly insult another’s appearance.
I decided it was time for that sales assistant to learn a lesson.
I enlisted the help of my friend Mike, a good-looking talent scout, and explained the situation to him. Mike was game for a little bit of poetic justice, so we went to the store the next day, ensuring it was the same assistant working.
When we arrived, Mike introduced himself as I pretended to browse for something. He chatted with the sales assistant about the modeling industry, mentioning he was in search of a fresh face for a new campaign.
She tried hard to make a good impression, adjusting her appearance and trying poses. After a while, as Emma entered the store, Mike delivered the twist, “Sorry, you are not what we are looking for.” Then, turning to Emma, he pretended they had never met and exclaimed, “Miss, have you ever thought about modeling? You would be the perfect fit!”
Emma beamed with joy, while the sales assistant was taken aback by the turn of events.
We left the store, and although Emma felt slightly guilty about the situation, I felt it was a fitting response to the assistant’s rudeness.
I wanted Emma to realize that her self-worth and confidence should always come from within, not defined by the judgments of others.
