Susan Lucci Provides Encouraging Update After Surgeries

Susan Lucci, affectionately known as ‘Daytime’s Leading Lady,’ has dazzled audiences for years with her extraordinary acting talents. As the unforgettable Erica Kane on ABC’s beloved soap opera ‘All My Children,’ Lucci became an iconic figure in television history.

Recognitions of Susan Lucci

In 1996, TV Guide celebrated Lucci’s remarkable contributions by ranking her 37th on the list of 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time. She was also placed among VH1โ€™s comprehensive 200 Top Icons of All Time and named one of Barbara Waltersโ€™s Ten Most Fascinating People.

Recently, however, Susan Lucci has faced significant health challenges. In 2018, she underwent an emergency heart procedure due to a critical arterial blockage threatening her life.

The warning signs were clearโ€”shortness of breath, chest discomfort, and an overwhelming pressure in her chest prompted her to seek immediate medical attention. Tests revealed a concerning blockage: 90% in a vital artery and 70% in another.

Second Surgery and Its Aftermath

In a heartfelt interview, Susan disclosed undergoing a second urgent cardiac procedure. Although her symptoms weren’t as intense this time, her attentiveness was key.

Dr. Richard Shlofmitz, a leading cardiologist at St. Francis Hospital in New York, shared on Good Morning America, โ€œWhile Susan wasnโ€™t experiencing a heart attack, her symptoms were troubling enough to catch my attention.โ€

Had she ignored the signs, a serious heart attack might have occurred.

Personal Challenges Post-Surgery

Just two months after Lucciโ€™s health ordeal in January 2022, she faced the profound loss of her husband Helmut Huber, who passed away at age 84.

โ€œAfter losing him, everything else, including my health, seemed to lose its significance,โ€ she expressed candidly. โ€œMy joy came from friends who kept my spirits up, and Iโ€™m determined to keep moving forward.โ€

Importantly, it’s vital to recognize that not all heart issues present with evident symptoms, as not every individual experiences chest pain.

Susan bravely opened up about her health journey, hoping to inspire women everywhere to prioritize their health and advocate for themselves.

Susan Lucci’s Message to Women

โ€œTrust your instincts and act on them. Be the best friend to yourself, be your own advocateโ€”you could save your own life,โ€ Susan emphasized. โ€œI feel fortunate to have a platform. I aim to contribute beyond just entertainment.โ€

In a proud moment in 2019, Susan graced the runway at the American Heart Associationโ€™s Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection, signaling her commitment to heart health awareness.

Susan Lucci remains incredibly grateful to her medical team, acknowledging their pivotal role in her health journey.
