The Heartbreaking Story of Teen Athlete Austin Metcalf

The community is mourning the loss of 17-year-old Texas student, Austin Metcalf, who tragically passed away after a stabbing incident at a track and field event. Everyone is shaken by this devastating news.

On a seemingly ordinary day, authorities from Frisco Police and Fire were called to an emergency at Kuykendall Stadium, Frisco, Texas. It was April 2nd when the incident occurred, taking place in the 6900 block of Stadium Lane.

The incident stemmed from a disagreement between two students, which intensely escalated, resulting in Austin being fatally wounded. He had attended the event alongside his twin brother, making the situation even more heart-wrenching.

As news of the incident spread quickly on social media, support and tributes began to pour in for the promising young athlete. People were trying to make sense of this tragic occurrence, remembering Austin for his kind-hearted nature.

Notably, Austin’s last message on social media platform X, shared just days before the tragedy on March 31, resonates deeply with those mourning his loss. He wrote with optimism: “Faith that god got me and my work will pay off.” Such powerful words have left a mark on many hearts.

His friends and followers reacted with heartfelt condolences. One shared, “What a precious heart. He was taken from the world too soon. Although we may not understand the timing, I know God has him now.” Another person added, “Praying for Strength and Courage for the family and friends during this incredibly difficult time…”

Details emerged revealing an altercation between Austin and 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, who attended a different school. They met for the first time at the track and field event on April 2. Reports describe Austin approaching Anthony because he was sitting in Frisco Memorial High School’s designated tent area.

A tweet stated: “We send our deepest condolences this morning to the family of Austin Metcalf and the entire Frisco community.”

Hunter, Austin’s twin brother, recounted the event to WFAA. “My brother stepped in and said, ‘You need to move. And he’s like, ‘Make me move.’”

Unfortunately, tensions rose. Karmelo Anthony reportedly retrieved a knife from his backpack and ended up stabbing Austin. Hunter, devastated, stayed by his brother’s side, trying desperately to offer comfort and help until first responders arrived.

Hunter quickly informed their parents as Austin was rushed to the hospital. Their father, Jeff Metcalf, recalled to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth: “I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him. This is murder.”

Jeff went on to describe his son as a “leader of men,” his radiant smile and passion for football being unmatched, as shared on a GoFundMe page set up after the incident.

Karmelo Anthony, now facing charges, was arrested for first-degree murder and is held at Collin County Jail on a $1 million bond.

In response, Andrew Anthony, Karmelo’s father, spoke out, describing his son as a “good kid,” and stated, “Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be.” He further insisted that Karmelo wasn’t the aggressor.

During this unfathomably painful time, we extend our deepest sympathies to Austin Metcalf’s family. May his soul rest in peace.
