Celebrities are sometimes linked with short-lived marriages, making it all the more astonishing when we come across couples who have defied the odds and remained together for years.
Among such couples is the long-lasting relationship between Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, both well-known movie stars.
Bacon and Sedgwick first met when she was 12, and their journey began. According to the account, Sedgwick and her brother saw Bacon on the big screen, and he made an impression on them.
She didn’t think much of it because she was too young then. A decade later, fate drew them together again while working on the film Lemon Sky.
Despite first impressions, it did not appear that they would end up together, as Sedgwick admitted she did not find Bacon appealing. On the other hand, Bacon was captivated by her from the outset.
“He wasn’t my type,” the actress revealed to Wide Open Country. “I remember glancing at his backside as he walked away from us after our first meeting and thinking, ‘Well, I guess some girls like that.’” They eventually began dating and married in 1988.
The couple’s two children are Travis Sedgwick Bacon, a skilled solo musician, and Sosie Ruth, who is following in her parent’s footsteps and pursuing a career in the film industry. Sosie is most recognized for her performance in Netflix’s teen drama 13 Reasons Why as Skye Miller.
Bacon and Sedgwick’s love for each other is as strong as ever after 34 years of marriage. The actor, well known for his part in Mystic River, never misses an opportunity to express his love for his wife.
“I’m not sure how he does it, but he always manages to make me feel like the most beautiful woman in the room—the only woman in the room,” exclaimed Kyra.
When asked what the key to their long-lasting and joyful marriage was, Bacon gave sound advice: “Whatever you do, don’t take advice from celebrities on how to stay married.” Our love and respect for one another undoubtedly strengthen our relationship.”
“He personifies honesty. “He has such a strong moral compass, and he never lies or cheats, and I find that incredibly appealing,” Sedgwick explained. “I’m constantly impressed by Kevin’s calm demeanor and lack of ‘drama.’”
During a visit to the American television show “Finding Your Roots,” the couple realized they were ninth cousins. This news, however, had little effect on their relationship. Though it initially made Kyra nervous, the knowledge that they were distant relatives put her mind at ease.
The study team discovered that Kevin’s 22nd great-grandpa was King Edward I, famous for his fights with William Wallace. Kevin joked that his forebears deserved more recognition if they weren’t first cousins.
Bacon and Sedgwick, like many others, have spent most of their time at home because of the ongoing pandemic. Kyra stated that she has been concentrating on her writing, and the couple has been doing a lot of entertainment and reading.
“We’re still avid readers, and I try to incorporate it into my daily routine,” she admitted. Undeniably, this duo remains one of Hollywood’s most adorable couples.
