In a heartbreaking turn of events, a family of four faced a tragic end while attempting to escape the wrath of Hurricane Helene. Alison Wisely, her fiancé Knox Petrucci, and her two sons, Felix, 9, and Lucas, 7, were swept away by a massive wave during the hurricane.
The close-knit family had crafted their own little paradise near a river in the peaceful North Carolina mountains. But when the hurricane approached, they knew they had to evacuate. Unfortunately, their vehicle became trapped in floodwaters, forcing them to abandon it and make their way back home.
Tragically, as they were headed home, a powerful wave engulfed them, dragging them into the Toe River. Their bodies were later recovered, leaving their loved ones devastated.
Alison and Knox had taken precautions after learning about the impending hurricane. They bought pallets and sandbags, anticipating only minor flooding in their basement. They believed that the mountains surrounding their home would protect them, as the area had never experienced such extreme weather.
However, nature proved them wrong. The Toe River swelled an astonishing 22 feet, with water levels nearly reaching the ceiling of their one-story house.
Alison and Knox had plans for a joyful future together. They were set to be married on November 9, 2024. Knox, a talented beekeeper, musician, songwriter, artist, and aspiring blacksmith, was described by his sister Briana as someone who moved through life with authenticity, boundless love, and acceptance.
Alison, a brilliant and wise woman, was a dedicated mother to her sons, whom she co-parented with Lance Wisely, their devoted father. Felix and Lucas were adorable young boys who found joy in playing Minecraft, as well as in drawing and painting.
Lance Wisely, the boys’ father, took to Facebook to share the devastating news of their tragic deaths. He lovingly described his children’s lives as being filled with adventure, art, silliness, and heartfelt moments. He emphasized how greatly they were loved by their family and friends.
The aftermath of Hurricane Helene has been devastating, with over 230 lives lost. Recovery efforts are still ongoing in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, where the storm wreaked havoc for nearly two weeks. Hurricane Milton, which struck Florida on October 9, claimed the lives of at least 16 people.
Our hearts go out to all those affected by these devastating hurricanes. Please share this article with your loved ones as a reminder to cherish every moment.
