In the United States, it’s estimated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that approximately one in every 1,600 babies is born with both a cleft lip and a cleft palate. Such is the journey of Mia Robertson, now 18 years old, who has bravely faced 13 surgeries with optimism, recently undergoing what the family hopes will be her final procedure.

Throughout each medical challenge, Mia has maintained a positive outlook. Her resilience is not just for her well-being, but she also seeks to inspire other young children with similar conditions. With the encouragement and support of her family, she launched the Mia Moo Fund, an initiative designed to spread awareness and to ensure that medical support is available to children in need across America.
โOne of the primary goals of the Mia Moo Fund is to increase awareness about the cleft lip and palate journey,โ shared Missy Robertson with the Christian Post. โAdditionally, we aim to provide financial assistance to families for medical needs right here in America.โ
Jase Robertson’s Podcast Update
Jase Robertson, on his podcast Unashamed, shared an update regarding Miaโs condition, emphasizing her positive progress. โSheโs doing great. Sheโs turned a corner,โ he warmly said, adding, โEverything seems great, seems to be fine.โ
He further explained, โThe surgery took a bit longer than anticipated, but she is back home and in recovery.โ He expressed gratitude toward listeners and well-wishers, โThank you for your prayers for her and our family. She is a champion!โ

Preceding the surgery, Missy openly discussed her daughter’s condition, often confronted with inquiries about the number of surgeries Mia might still need. โThereโs never a definitive answer other than โWe just donโt know,โโ Missy disclosed, emphasizing their reliance on faith for guidance. โSince she is 18 now, she’s leading her medical discussions and filling out forms. It feels a bit strange,โ Missy noted. โThis reminds me to depend on the Lord and accept my lack of control.โ
Mia Looks Toward the Future
Mia remains hopeful, saying, โHopefully, itโs the last time Iโll see my doctors in this setting! It has been a long road, but we are at the finish line,โ showcasing her resilient spirit.
The Robertson family has faced both joy and sorrow along the way. Back in 2002, they experienced the tragedy of a miscarriage between eight and ten weeks into Missyโs second pregnancy, a profound loss that had both physical and emotional impacts. Yet, Miaโs arrival brought happiness to their lives shortly thereafter.

Looking forward, the Robertsons are opening their hearts and home to a new family member, welcoming a child whose mother is unable to provide care. With this, they continue to share love and support within their community.
Our thoughts are with Mia for a swift and complete recovery.
We encourage you to share this heartfelt story with your loved ones.
