Most young people hope to go to college, travel, and make many friends. No different was 12-year-old Taylor Smith from Johnson City, Tennessee.

She loved Doctor Who and spent her days with her family and friends. Smith shared her goals in a letter she sent to herself in the future in April 2013. The letter was tucked away in a box in her room, “To be opened by Taylor Smith on April 12, 2023, only (unless specified differently).

Her premature passing was a tragedy for her parents, who had to deal with their daughter’s untimely passing.

When Mary Ellen Smith died from complications related to pneumonia, Tim and Mary Ellen Smith were destroyed by this uneventful passing. It’s a shame Taylor could never see if her hopes and objectives would materialize.

Marry Ellen’s family came upon the message while going through her belongings. They were moved by it and decided to post it online to comfort others.

Marry Ellen replied to her daughter’s letter by saying that although she cannot physically reunite with her, she is happy that her tale has motivated others.

The note goes as follows:

“Hello, Taylor!

I hope everything is fine and that you are doing fantastic. I apologize for taking so long to write to you, but it is still early where I am. Congratulations on completing high school, then! If, at first, you are unsuccessful, try again until you have your graduation. They claim that you and I are now attending college. But if you don’t want to be here, I can understand. We don’t want to be there for several good reasons. I do, however, hope that things are going well for you.

Today is Allana’s 11th birthday; it’s incredible to think that she is already that old! I was born a year after her, but I was away on my first mission trip to Cranks, Kentucky, so I missed her party this year. It’s barely been six days since I returned.

While we’re at it, how is your relationship with God? Did you recently pray, worship, read the Bible, or go to serve God? Why not do it immediately if not? Just get started! Jesus died for us even though he was righteous and never mistreated us.

Have you since taken any other missionary journeys? Have you ever been outside of the US? How about air travel? Are you aware of the current situation of Doctor Who? But after that, you must read your own words from the past! Do you now live in your own home? If we are in college, what are we studying? Right now, I’m trying to become a lawyer.

We are growing older. The iPad will soon replace our current outdated tablets for our children’s education. We might as well get iPad minis and sell our current iPads. To help the youngsters understand what we’re talking about, there is a drawing of an iPad attached. Remember that this was written ten years ago, and a lot has changed since then, both for the better and for the worst. That’s simply life. You must accept it.

Truly yours”

May God rest her beautiful soul.
